FDA Clears Novel Osteopenia Treatment

The FDA recently cleared a novel treatment for osteopenia. When OTW spoke with CEO Laura Yecies, we found both a very interesting new product and an interesting leader who is charting a novel path to preventing one of the most devastating yet silent bone health issues—osteoporosis.
The startup, Osteoboost Health, Inc, is based in Redwood City, California, and with the FDA clearance, will be marketing a product brand named “Osteoboost.” It is a wearable device that uses low-intensity vibrations to help strengthen bones.
OTW was able to speak with Yecies about Osteoboost and her own impressive career. “I am a serial entrepreneur and Silicon Valley veteran with over 30 years of experience leading and scaling companies across technology, business, and biotech,” she told us, “After years of building and scaling products, I turned my focus to startups, drawn by the opportunity to work more hands-on with complex challenges. My blend of operating experience, scientific curiosity, and drive to solve meaningful health problems ultimately led me into the healthcare industry.”
Yecies added, “Alongside my executive leadership, I’ve continued to invest in my scientific interests, pursuing further studies in genomics at Stanford and biology at UC Berkeley. I hold an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School, an M.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University’s Landegger Honors Program in International Business, and a B.A. in Government from Dartmouth College.”
Yecies is no stranger to scaling startups. As she explained in part to OTW, “Prior to Osteoboost, I served as CEO of three venture-backed startups. At SugarSync, I led the company through rapid growth, expanding revenue to over $20 million, leading to the company’s acquisition by J2 Global. I was also CEO of Catch, a productivity app company, which I successfully sold to Apple, and CEO of Neurosync (formerly SyncThink), a neurotechnology company adopted by major medical centers and sports teams.”
OTW asked Yecies what led her to Osteoboost. “I became involved with Osteoboost after learning about the technology and immediately recognizing both its scientific promise and personal relevance,” she said. “My interest in bone health began in college while working at a nursing home, where I saw firsthand the impact of hip fractures on patients’ lives. Years later, I watched my mother and grandmother navigate osteoporosis, and I was eventually diagnosed with osteopenia myself in my mid-50s—despite a healthy lifestyle and adequate calcium intake. My doctor’s advice at the time—’keep doing what you’re doing’—highlighted how few effective options existed.”
At Osteoboost, Yecies has brought this experience to develop and release its flagship product.
“After joining Osteoboost, I played a key role in refining the product and advancing its development. The company’s FDA-cleared, non-drug wearable delivers targeted vibration therapy to the spine and hips—an approach with the potential to address a major gap in osteoporosis prevention. With over 60 million Americans affected and few preventative treatments available, my decision to become CEO was grounded in personal experience, hands-on product work, and a commitment to delivering clinically validated care to a vastly underserved population.”
